Giants designate Vin Mazzaro for assignment

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Right-hander Vin Mazzaro was designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants before their game against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.

Mazzaro was knocked around for nine runs - seven earned - in Colorado's 13-run fifth inning Thursday night. He retired one batter.

Right-hander Albert Suarez, 1-2 with a 2.88 ERA in five games with Triple-A Sacramento, had his contract purchased and will be looking to make his major league debut.
