Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz brought a six-year-old fan, named Maverick Schutte, out for batting practice Wednesday night's game against the Oakland Athletics.
Schutte threw out the first pitch wearing a David Ortiz t-shirt.

Schutte has a heart defect and lung disease. He met former Red Sox player Kevin Millar through the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Millar told Ortiz Schutte's story and promised would hit a home run for him before the Red Sox hosted the Yankees on April 29. Ortiz kept his promise and gave Boston a 4–2 lead in the eighth inning with a two-run shot of Dellin Betances.

“I'm hitting a home run for you tonight. Remember that,” Ortiz said in a video with Millar before the game against the Yankees.

Schutte got a chance to see Ortiz get a hit in the bottom of the fourth inning of Wednesday's game.
Most importantly for Maverick, the Red Sox won 13-3.
