New York Mets third baseman David Wright has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a herniated disk in his neck, the team announced on Friday.

He will rest for the next six to eight weeks before resuming baseball activities.

Wright, who has hit .226 with seven home runs and 14 RBIs in 37 games this season, missed the team’s last five games with the injury and was scheduled to do conditioning drills Thursday after receiving a cortisone shot earlier in the week.

New York has used infielder Wilmer Flores at third base in Wright’s absence.

The Mets (29–23) are currently second in the NL East standings.
