The Boston red Sox have placed catcher Ryan Hanigan and left fielder/catcher Blake Swihart on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Sunday.

Outfielder Rusney Castillo and pitcher Heath Hembree have both been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Swihart sustained a left ankle sprain Saturday after slamming into the wall in left field while trying to field a fly ball. He will undergo an MRI Sunday morning to have the injury evaluated.

In 19 games this season, Swihart is hitting .258 with three triples and five RBIs.

Hanigan has been placed on the DL due to a neck strain. He has appeared in 22 games for Boston this season.

The Red Sox have also selected catcher Sandy Leon from Pawtucket, and optioned pitcher Noe Ramirez to Triple-A.
