Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson will undergo surgery to repair damage to his labrum and rotator cuff, the team announced Tuesday.

Wilson, who has not pitched since having surgery to remove bone spurs in his left elbow last August, is suffering from fraying of the labrum. Surgery is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles next week.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said before the team’s game Thursday that Wilson was leaning to having the season-ending surgery.

“As of right now, he hasn’t been able to get over the hump,'’ Scioscia said.

Los Angeles is currently missing two of its top starters, as Garrett Richards and Andrew Heaney have both sustained elbow injuries.

The Angels (33–50) are currently last in the AL West standings.
