The Angels have placed first baseman C.J. Cron on the disabled list with a broken hand.

Cron was hit in the left hand with a pitch in the sixth inning of Friday’s win against the Orioles and was placed on the 15-day DL afterward.

“It’s a blow to us and to C.J.,” Manager Mike Scioscia told reporters after the game. “He had really picked it up and started to become productive the way we know he can.”

Cron called it “bad timing.” He was in midst of a hot streak, with 17 RBIs and a .364 average in eight July games.

Cron is second on the team with an .810 OPS and has 11 home runs hitting behind Mike Trout and Albert Pujols.

Ji-Man Choi was recalled to take his place on the roster.
