The Kansas City Royals have called up top prospect Raul A. Mondesi from Triple A Omaha to make his season debut on Tuesday, the team announced.

Mondesi, who will turn 21 on Wednesday, missed the first 50 games of the season after testing positive for Clenbuterol, a banned substance. His ban was originally for 80 games, but that number was reduced after he showed that the substance was ingested in cold medicine he had taken.

The middle infielder was ranked No. 55 on Baseball America’s mid-season top 100 prospect list. He began the year at Double A, where he hit .259 with 17 steals in 29 games.

Mondesi made his major-league debut with the Royals during last year’s World Series win over the Mets. The switch-hitter struck out in his only plate appearance.

In a corresponding move, Kansas City sent down utility player Whit Merrifield.
