The Kansas City Royals have placed closer Wade Davis on the 15-day disabled list due to a flexor strain, the team announced Sunday.

Davis’s stint on the DL is retroactive to Thursday.

Pitcher Matt Strahm has been recalled from Double-A Northwest Arkansas to fill the open roster spot.

Davis left his team’s road trip in Dallas on Saturday to return to Kansas City for an MRI. The MRI took place on Sunday, after which the team announced the decision to give him time off.

The 30-year-old had just been activated from the DL on July 16, after he suffered a forearm strain earlier in the month.

Davis has recorded 21 saves and posted a 1.60 ERA in 35 appearances this season.
