Red Sox come back in ninth, beat Angels on Pedroia’s two-out homer

The Red Sox topped the Angels on a Dustin Pedroia home run in the ninth.

Dustin Pedroia’s go-ahead, three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning on Sunday lifted the Red Sox over the Angels in Anaheim, 5–3.

Pedroia took closer Huston Street deep to centerfield on a 1-0 slider, clearing the head of Mike Trout at the fence, to put Boston ahead by one, and the very next hitter, shortstop Xander Bogaerts, followed with a solo shot.

It was Pedroia’s second go-ahead homer in the ninth or later.

Boston, in the thick of a tight race for the American League East crown, moved to 57–46, 1 1/2 games back of the Orioles (59–45) in third place. The Blue Jays, at 59–46, sit just 1/2 a game back.
