Royals pitcher Danny Duffy pitched seven hitless innings in Monday’s game against the Rays, before Desmond Jennings led off the eighth with a double. 

Duffy needed 97 pitches to get through the seventh, striking out 14 and issuing just one walk. His previous career high for strikeouts in a game was 10. His career high for pitches thrown is 119. 

There has only been one other no-hitter in the majors this season, by Cubs ace Jake Arrieta on April 21. 

Bret Saberhagen was the last Royals pitcher to throw a no-hitter, on Aug. 26, 1991. The last time the Rays were no-hit was on Aug. 15, 2012 by Felix Hernandez.
