Gary Sanchez called up by Yanks as part of youth movement

NEW YORK (AP) Catcher Gary Sanchez has been recalled by the New York Yankees from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and could see time at designated hitter as part of the team's youth movement.

New York announced the move before Wednesday's game against the Mets. With the Subway Series moving to the Bronx, the DH was once again in use.

Sanchez will be the DH against Steven Matz and bat eighth against the Mets.

Sanchez, 23, has hit .282 with 10 homers and 50 RBIs at Scranton. He made his big league debut with the Yankees last October, going 0 for 2 over two games, and he was 0 for 4 against the Chicago White Sox on May 13.

To clear a roster spot, the Yankees optioned outfielder Ben Gamel to the RailRiders.
