BALTIMORE (AP) Steve Pearce broke up a no-hit bid by the Boston Red Sox on an infield single with one out in the seventh inning.

After starter Eduardo Rodriguez left with an injury in the fifth, Matt Barnes kept the no-hitter alive until Pearce hit a dribbler toward the mound.

Brock Holt charged from third base and failed trying to barehand the ball while Pearce reached first.

Rodriguez threw two pitches in the fifth before exiting with left hamstring tightness. Barnes entered and completed a walk to Pearce.

Barnes then got six straight outs, the last one on a diving catch by second baseman Dustin Pedroia on a liner up the middle by Jonathan Schoop.

Rodriguez was charged with two walks and struck out seven.
