San Francisco Giants starter Jeff Samardzija carried a no-hitter through six innings against the New York Mets, but lost it after Curtis Granderson led off the seventh with a double to left.

The 31-year-old righthander had thrown 81 pitches through six, allowing just one baserunner on a walk in the third and striking out six. He would have been the 18th pitcher in Giants history to throw a no-hitter, the last being Chris Heston on June 9, 2015. San Francisco has had a no-no in each of the past four seasons, and is still searching for one in 2016.

The Mets have struggled at the plate all season, ranking 29th in runs scored (467) and batting average (.240). They activated Yoenis Cespedes off the disabled list on Friday, and although he homered on Saturday, the outfielder was hitless in his first two at bats on Sunday.
