The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed right fielder Yasiel Puig on waivers, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Rosenthal reports that the move is likely being made so the team can gauge interest in the troubled outfielder. Los Angeles is more likely to trade Puig in the offseason.

Puig is hitting .260 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 277 at-bats this season. He has been playing well since being demoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on August 2, hitting .382/.440/.645.

The 25-year-old can stay on waivers for up to 47 hours or until he is claimed by another team. If Puig is not claimed, the Dodgers can trade him to any team. Los Angeles also has the ability to revoke a waiver request.
