Pirates place pitcher Gerrit Cole on 15-day disabled list

The Pirates have placed pitcher Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Monday. 

Cole is headed to the DL with posterior inflammation in his right elbow. He was scheduled to start Monday against the Cubs, but the team held him out after Cole received a second opinion on his elbow over the weekend. 

Steven Brault started in place of Cole against the Cubs. Cole won his last start against the Marlins, but complained of elbow pain after the game.

Cole has made 20 starts for the Pirates so far this season. He is 7–9 with a 3.55 ERA.
