Braves beat Phillies 2-0 for 6th straight win

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Julio Teheran made his major league debut at Citizens Bank Park in 2011. He likes coming to Philadelphia, and it shows.

Teheran pitched six sharp innings, Matt Kemp homered and the Atlanta Braves beat the Phillies 2-0 on Sunday for their sixth consecutive win.

Teheran (5-9) allowed five hits and struck out seven while lowering his ERA to 3.01. The right-hander improved to 5-1 with a 1.55 ERA in six career starts in Philly.

''Everything is coming together,'' Teheran said. ''I feel really good. The last two innings I really battled, but I made pitches.''

Teheran cruised through the first four innings, and then wriggled out of bases-loaded jams in the fifth and sixth. Maikel Franco grounded out for the final out of the fifth and Peter Bourjos lined to right on Teheran's final pitch.

''He was really good,'' Braves manager Brian Snitker said. ''That last inning he battled his butt off. He's healthy now and his velocity is back up. He's back where he needs to be.''

Jim Johnson worked the ninth for his 15th save, finishing a five-hitter.

Kemp, who was acquired in a July 30 trade with San Diego, hit a leadoff drive in the second for his 28th homer. Freddie Freeman added another leadoff drive in the eighth for his 29th of the year.

''We got off to a really bad start this season, but Brian made us keep a low profile and everything is now going well,'' Freeman said. ''Matt has been a big contributor, too. He got us going today.''

Philadelphia dropped its sixth consecutive game, wasting another solid start by Jake Thompson (1-5). The rookie right-hander allowed four hits, struck out six and walked four in seven innings.

''This was a miserable homestand and there's not much good to talk about,'' Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. ''However, it was very good to see Thompson pitch the way he did. It was great to see.''

Chris Withrow and Ian Krol each pitched a hitless inning before Johnson struck out the side, helping the Braves match their longest winning streak of the season.

Like Teheran, Thompson got into a couple of jams but also pitched out of them, getting Nick Markakis to ground into a double play to escape a bases-loaded situation in the sixth and retiring Adonis Garcia on a grounder to third with the bases loaded in the seventh.

The loss for the Phillies marked only the fourth time in franchise history that they dropped every game of a homestand of six games or longer. They also did it earlier this season. The other two times were in 1883 and 1964.

SURGING

Atlanta center fielder Ender Inciarte extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the sixth inning. ... Freeman extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the fourth inning. He has reached safely in 27 straight for the longest active streak in the majors. The double was the 200th of his career.

PUNCHLESS PHILLIES

The Phillies were shut out for the eighth time this season. They have scored the fewest runs in the majors this season (500) and only scored 11 runs in the six-game home stand.

REINFORCEMENTS COMING

After shutting down Vince Velazquez following his start Saturday because he reached his innings limit, Phillies general manager Matt Klentak said Alec Asher likely would be recalled to take his place in the rotation. Klentak said he expected ''about a half-dozen'' more players to be recalled once the minor league playoff season ends.
