Rays reliever has wedding ring knocked off by comebacker

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Danny Farquhar watched Logan Forsythe complete the third out of the inning, then panicked.

The Rays reliever had his wedding ring, along with his glove, knocked off his hand by Jonathan Schoop's comebacker during Tampa Bay's 11-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

''It's one of those things, you don't plan on losing your wedding ring while you're pitching,'' Farquhar said. ''I guess Schoop hit the ball so hard where it knocked my glove off and the wedding ring.''

Schoop was thrown out at first after the ball deflected to second baseman Forsythe.

After poking around on the Tropicana Field turf, Farquhar was able to find his ring.

''It was kind of embarrassing looking for it,'' Farquhar said. ''But I'm happy it was the third out. It actually shot the other direction. Glove went one way, the ring went the other.''

Farquhar didn't allow a run in his one inning of work.
