WASHINGTON (AP) Hours after he was activated from the disabled list, Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg left in the third inning of Wednesday night's game against the Atlanta Braves.
Strasburg had been sidelined due to right elbow soreness. In his first start since Aug. 17, he gave up a double to rookie Dansby Swanson leading off the third.
With Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz attempting to bunt, Strasburg threw an 0-2 pitch that sailed high. Strasburg winced, walked around the mound and then threw another pitch, retiring Foltynewicz.
Washington's trainer then came out and spoke briefly with Strasburg, who soon departed. Strasburg was replaced by Sean Burnett, who gave up Adonis Garcia's RBI single.
Strasburg gave up one run and two hits in 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and no walks, throwing 42 pitches.
Before going on the disabled list, Strasburg allowed 19 runs over three starts, including nine in 1 2/3 innings during a loss to Colorado.
