The Nationals are making progress on a trade for White Sox ace Chris Sale, according to multiplereports.

FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman reports the Nationals believe they have “a real shot” at landing Sale, and that the club has a “clear lead” in the sweepstakes.

It’s not clear which of Washington’s prospects would be included in the deal, but Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal names Victor Robles and Lucas Giolito as two that would likely go to Chicago in the deal.

Sale, 27, was selected to his fifth All-Star Game in 2016 and posted a 3.34 ERA over 226 2/3 innings to finish fifth in Cy Young voting.
