Mets Hire Indians Pitching Coach Mickey Callaway as Manager

The Mets will replace Terry Collins with Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway.

The New York Mets have hired Cleveland Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway as their new manager, the team announced on Monday. He replaces Terry Collins, who was reassigned to a front office role after the Mets slumped to a 70–92 record this season.

Callaway, 42, has been a coach in the Indians' organization since the 2013 season. In 2017, Cleveland's pitching staff led the American League in ERA, complete games, shutouts, and strikeouts and was second in opponent batting average.

Callaway spent portions of five major league seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers from 1999 to 2004. He also played professionally in Korea and Taiwan and briefly served as the head coach of Texas A&M baseball.
