2019 World Series Schedule: Nationals to Face Astros

The World Series is finally here. The Nationals are headed to the Fall Classic for the first time in franchise history. There, they will face the Astros, who are looking to win their second championship in three years.

Washington had not won a playoff series in the franchise's 15-year history prior to 2019. Most people counted the team out of the playoff hunt in May when they had a 19–31 record. However, they battled back during the regular season and have been dominant during the playoffs. 

Howie Kendrick, Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto have powered the Nationals' offense in October. Washington beat the Brewers in a dramatic NL Wild Card Game before challenging the powerhouse Dodgers in the NL Division Series. Kendrick's stunning 10th-inning Grand Slam in Game 5 at Dodger Stadium gave the Nationals their first-ever series win in the playoffs. The club advanced to the NLCS, where they swept the Cardinals to clinch the National League pennant.

The Nationals waited to see which AL powerhouse they'd play, the Astros or the Yankees. Houston outlasted New York in six games, when José Altuve blasted a walk-off homer off closer Aroldis Chapman to send his team to the World Series.

The Astros have home-field advantage in the World Series, which begins Tuesday, Oct. 22. at 8 p.m. ET.
