In this story:

There is no doubt who the face of baseball is at this point. He currently resides out in Anaheim, California and dazzles the sport anytime he steps onto the field. Shohei Ohtani is unlike any player that we have seen since back in the day when Babe Ruth was playing. Ruth himself was an outlier but Ohtani may be taking things to the next level. His ability to be an effective two-way superstar has given life to a sport that at times can struggle to compete with other leagues.

Ohtani is scheduled to become a free agent this winter and he should break records with the contract that he will receive. Every single team would love to have him on their roster but realistically, only a few will be able to compete for his services and the price tag that comes with it. His peers have noticed how special of a player he is and many have been discussing his upcoming free agency. One of the latest to do it is Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow. He spoke with reporter Chris Rose about what he thinks Ohtani should get this offseason.

Glasnow mentioned that he thinks Ohtani should get a new contract that starts with a six, meaning $600 million. It has been reported that Ohtani will become the first player to sign a deal for at least $500 million so $600 would be something different entirely.

However, it’s not that he hasn’t earned it. His two-way ability is good enough that teams could look at it as they are paying for two players at $300 million each. Additionally, the amount of media coverage, sponsorships and just marketing that would come from signing a player like Ohtani would easily make up the money spent. He likely is worth more than a potential $600 million to some team.

His free agency will be one for the history books. Whoever lands the two-way star will be better off in many ways and it’ll be fascinating to watch all play out.
