In this story:

The Los Angeles Angels are playing some good baseball at the moment, regardless of coming off a two-game sweep in their freeway series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Halos are still in the thick of things for the playoffs, but it won't get any easier for the team trying to end their playoff drought. Although they are capable of doing so, led by their superstars, Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, they have yet to get the job done themselves. Many things haven't gone their way, and this season has been no different; still, there are no excuses for the Halos.

I'm sure many fans and pundits feel that way, but Angels insider for the Atheltic Sam Blum is a bit worried about their upcoming schedule, which will be a gauntlet.

The Angels have a tough July schedule, facing the first-place

Diamondbacks

, the

Dodgers

and

Padres

on the road, the Astros and

Yankees

, as well as four games at Toronto and

Atlanta

heading into the deadline. The team is operating without much of its starting infield.

As of June 22, the Angels sit at 41-35, being six games back of the top spot in the AL West, and are now 0.5 games back of the final spot of the wild card.

It's nice that the Halos are playing good baseball, but can this be sustained? They have the talent to do so, but injuries could get in the way. The Angels are missing three key infielders that have propelled the Halos, and if they miss more time, that could hurt the team in the long run.

The team is operating without much of its starting infield. Shortstop Zach Neto (oblique) is out indefinitely. It seems Gio Urshela (pelvis fracture) will likely miss the rest of the season. Anthony Rendon’s hand might be a short-term injury, but no one seems to know for sure.

Their approach to the trade deadline could mean a lot for how they view the rest of the 2023 season. Do they trust their current roster enough to get the job done, or do they feel they need to add to their roster to get over the hump?

It's going to be an interesting month for your Angels. We'll see what they do or don't do in free agency and if they can get healthy for a long period of time.
