The Los Angeles Angels were able to come out of their weekend series against the Houston Astros somewhat alive as they captured a 2-1 victory on Sunday and snapped their three-game losing streaks. The small wins were being counted at that point and even though LA's offense did not come through drastically, Griffin Canning got them off to a great start pitching wise.

But the hits were tough to come by the entire series for the Halos. Shohei Ohtani had himself quite the night on Saturday as he came up one stat short of a cycle for the third time this year and they still lost 9-6. That should tell you everything you need to know about the rest of the roster was performing.

However, the fans have been a little extra hard on Hunter Renfroe as of late. A big reason that LA has not been able to rack up the number in their own runs column is because he is batting pretty horribly whenever guys are in scoring position.

"Hunter Renfroe has really struggled with runners in scoring position (.154 BA/.481 OPS). He pops out to end the 7th with runners at the corners. It's 1-1."

This is something that Renfore has struggled with for quite some time and his overall numbers are not a whole lot better as he batting .252 with an OPS of .753 in his 2023 season.

Halos fans are then looking at Mickey Moniak who has remained strong with a .327 batting average along with a 1.034 OPS and have wondered why he hasn't received a consistent starting role just yet.

"Pretty brutal watch. His decent overall numbers are buoyed by garbage time HRs. I’d honestly rather see Moniak over him vs. RHP, since he could actually have a future on this team."

Perhaps this weekend will be a wake-up call for Phil Nevin and the rest of the front office.
