In this story:

The Los Angeles Angels are in a spot they haven't been in since 2014. The Halos are six games above.500, six games in back of the top spot in the AL West, and half a game back of the last Wild Card spot. It may not seem like much, but the Halos are in a prime position to break the postseason drought.

It's been eight years since their last postseason appearance, which is eight seasons too long when you have the likes of Mike Trout on your squad for three-quarters of that time. The time is now for the Angels and their fans to play meaningful baseball in October, and although this team may have got them here, the front office may not be done improving the team. Where the Angels sit, they could be a threat in the postseason but probably won't make it too far with the team they currently have (no offense to Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani).

That being said, the Halos could add some reinforcement come the trade deadline, and there's a name being floated around that could put the Angels over the top. MLB insider for Bleacher Report Kerry Miller listed some outrages trades that could shake up the MLB, and put the Angels acquiring MVP slugger and multiple time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt from the St Louis Cardinals.

Los Angeles Angels Receive:

1B Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals Receive:

C Logan O'Hoppe and RHP Victor Mederos

But the Angels? In what might be their last season with Shohei Ohtani? In an effort to convince the once-in-a-generation superstar to re-sign with them? They might be willing to sell what little farm system they have to make a serious push for a World Series.O'Hoppe got out to an impressive start to his rookie season before suffering a torn labrum in late April. The initial recovery window was given as 4-6 months, so it's unclear if he'll be able to play again this season. And while he is their

highest-rated prospect

, their second-best prospect (Edgar Quero) is also a catcher—one who had a .965 OPS at the Single-A level last season as a 19-year-old.The Angels would likely need to throw in at least one pitcher to sweeten the pot enough to pique St. Louis' interest, but Goldy to LA might not be as outrageous as it seems.

The Cardinals are a hot mess right now and they could be having a fire sale a month from now. Idf they do, look for the Angels to be in the mix. The potential addition of Goldschmidt would be a game-changer for the Halos; that will solidify themsleevs with three sluggers in their lineup plus some solid pieces around them.

The loss of O'Hoppe in this potential trade would sting a bit, but the Halos are in a win-now situation, and Goldschmidt fits that bill. One thing is fir sure, the Angels need to bolster their lineup/pitching, so this trade could mean something if the Cardinals continue to drop games.

This will be another very interesting trade deadline.
