Angels Rumors: Recently Fired Veteran Manager Expressing Interest in Halos Open Job

Still something left in the tank.

The Angels made a predictable move to start their 2023 offseason as they relieved their manager Phil Nevin of his duties at the end of another losing season.

Potential replacements for Nevin might be hard to come by but one veteran skipper wants to give it a go after his disappointing year with his previous team.

Bucl Showalter resigned from his post as the Mets manager after two seasons in Queens with varied results.

New York won 100 games with Showalter at the helm but lost the division title to Atlanta in 2022 after falling apart down the stretch.

That poor run in September meant the Mets played the Padres in the Wild Card Series where San Diego rallied to beat the team in the three-game set.

Expectations weren't met for 2022 and Mets owner Steve Cohen decided to move quickly by spending to bolster the team.

Pitchers Justin Verlander and Kodai Senga from the international pool joined Max Scherzer to form a fearsome three-headed monster atop New York's rotation.

Brandon Nimmo inked an eight-year extension and, with Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso, was meant to lead an equally dominant hitting core in Queens.

New York fans instead experienced arguably the most disappointing team in baseball relative to preseason expectations.

Verlander and Scherzer got traded away after the team slipped to a sub-.500 record after expectations of another 100-win season due to their massive payroll.

Both Showalter and GM Billy Eppler left their posts with the team and a transitional year within the organization for 2024 is all but guaranteed.

Now a free agent, Showalter has plenty of playoff experience to bring to the table for an Angels roster that hasn't had any for nearly the past decade.

If Arte Moreno opts for an outside candidate as a managerial hire perhaps Showalter can fit that bill.
