Allgeyer Headed to Houston Astros in Trade with Phillies

In this story:
The Houston Astros bolstered their pitching department by sending cash to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for left-handed pitcher Nick Allgeyer.
Houston's latest transaction comes on the heels of the Astros calling up southpaw J.P. France from the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, who will make his Major League debut on Saturday in Seattle.
At this time, it's unclear if Allgeyer will join the Astros 40-man rotation or if he will be sent to the minors.
Allgeyer, 27, has pitched in just one game in the Majors, as he made his MLB debut on July 2, 2021 with Toronto, throwing 14 pitches while not allowing a single hit.
His stats at Triple-A in 2023 through four starts (12 innings pitched) include an 0-1 record with a 4.50 ERA, 15 strikeouts and a 1.17 WHIP.
Allgeyer began his minor league career in 2018 after being drafted by the Blue Jays in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Stay tuned for the latest news on Allgeyer, France and more as the Astros aim to shuffle things around in the starting rotation after multiple injuries have forced manager Dusty Baker to dig deep into Houston's farm system while also looking elsewhere to add pitching depth.
The Astros begin a three-game series against the Mariners starting Friday, May 5 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, with first pitched slated for 9:10 p.m. CT.
