Could the Houston Astros be both sellers and buyers at this season's MLB trade deadline?

Well, sort of.

In general, a "buying" team will give up a package of prospects for an established veteran coming from the "selling" team.

A buyer's profile is usually considered to be a contending team with eyes on postseason success. A seller is a team that usually has little hope of even making the playoffs.

Using those definitions, it is a bit odd to see that both Chas McCormick and Jake Meyers are both listed among MLB Trade Rumor's "Most Likely to Be Traded" list.

However, the Astros have made it clear that they are willing to part with one of the two outfielders as one is seen as excess. Especially considering the imminent return of Yordan Alvarez.

By dangling an established MLB outfielder like McCormick or Meyers, the Astros can headline a package for an impact player and compete among the best for their services. This is especially helpful considering the lack of strength the Astros' farm system boasts.

If Houston hopes to land one of the top starting pitchers on the market, or a player like Chicago Cubs star Cody Bellinger, Houston may just have to move one of their fan favorite outfielders to make it happen.
