The Houston Astros will certainly be buyers, that much we know.

But whether they opt to pursue starting pitching, and offensive upgrade or both has been a source of debate for weeks.

Now, we have some more insight.

Astros general manager Dana Brown shed some light on the team's plans according to MLB.com's recent Astros Beat newsletter.

It appears that Brown and the front office will look to focus on adding a bat to reinforce the offense. Meanwhile, they could keep their eye on the starting pitching market in order to help bolster their rotation that already features three high-performing starters.

“Everybody keeps talking about pitching, but our pitching is still No. 1 and has been pretty good,” Dana Brown said. “It may not be a bad idea to add a really good bat. When we score five runs or more, we’re really good (30-4 entering Thursday). … We’ll take a look and see what’s best for the team at the time, whether it’s a pitcher or hitter and how much we have to give up.”

Brown's comments pretty much line up with what we have been thinking here at Inside the Astros for a while now. Adding a starter, especially one with control would help Houston down the stretch, into the postseason and help solve questions for next season.

But adding a bat and helping alleviate what has been a disastrous season from first baseman Jose Abreu might be the most significant add this team can make at the trade deadline.

Either way, it appears the Astros are all in once again.
