Houston Astros Open to Moving Fan Favorite at Trade Deadline

The Houston Astros will need to make a splash at this season's MLB trade deadline. However, the market is thin with many teams yet to declare whether they are sellers or buyers.

One only needs to look towards the New York Mets or Chicago Cubs as examples of teams that don't quite know what they are doing yet.

Therefore, it may take some creativity on the Astros' part if they hope to acquire impact talent.

One option is to trade from a position of excess, which in Houston's case is Major League outfield talent.

“We’re exploring trading major-league player for major-league player with teams that are contending that make sense,” Brown said. “We have a lot of outfielders right now. If we could move an outfield piece for something that could fill another need, we probably would be interested in doing that. Player for player? Yeah. We have to get creative to open up the market. We’re definitely exploring that.”

One player who The Athletic says could be the most likely to move is Chas McCormick.

According to the column, the New York Yankees had interest in McCormick at one point but a deal never came to fruition.

Regardless, between McCormick, Corey Julks, Jake Meyers, Kyle Tucker, and eventually Yordan Alvarez and Michael Brantley, it's a bit crowded out there.

Moving a player like McCormick would allow the Astros a better chance at landing a player that can make an immediate impact on the lineup or rotation and likely be around for more than just the 2023 MLB season.

It's a move Houston has to consider making.
