The Houston Astros need all the reinforcements they can get as they have dealt with injury after injury this season.

After months of the injury bug constantly striking, it appears they may have caught a break with a recent injury update.

It appears as though starting pitcher José Urquidy will be back with the team by the MLB All-Star break, as the 28-year-old righty has been working his way back into the rotation since an injury sidelined him on April 30 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Astros General Manager Dana Brown told SportsTalk 790 AM on Sunday that Urquidy’s rehab is going well and that he’s hopeful to have him back with the club by mid-July as scheduled.

According to Houston skipper Dusty Baker, Urquidy has been throwing off flat ground at 90-feet as he works his way back to full health.

Prior to the injury, Urquidy was 2-2 over six starts (27.2 innings pitched) with a 5.20 ERA, 23 strikeouts and a 1.55 WHIP.

With injuries continuing to pile up for an Astros team in a tightly-contested showdown with the Texas Rangers for the American League West division crown, Urquidy’s return next month could be a very welcome arrival.

At the very least, his return by the All-Star break won’t hurt for a Houston team hunting for wins while their interstate rivals continue to increase their division lead.

The Astros (37-29) currently sit 4.5 games behind the Rangers (41-24) in the AL West.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday, with Houston hosting the Washington Nationals and Texas continuing a home stand against the Los Angeles Angels.
