In this story:

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve could be back to the Major League squad sooner than expected according to General Manager Dana Brown.

Brown, speaking with The Athletic, said that Altuve was "ahead of schedule, great movement and flexible in the thumb and will get an X-Ray in 12 days or so to see how the thumb is healing but appears that it's healing very well."

Altuve suffered his thumb ligament tear during the World Baseball Classic and underwent surgery soon after. He is a quick healer and a return to the field ahead of the original June timeline was always possible.

If his X-rays are clean on May 5, then he could immediately return to baseball activities. Depending on his ramp up time he could be back just a week or two later.

One only needs to look towards Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies who said he would not be doing a rehab assignment to see how badly these players want to get back on the field.

Perhaps Altuve takes the same route.
