Houston Astros Star Talks Buc-ees Road Trip After ALCS Game 5

In this story:
Buc-ees has become as synonymous with the state of Texas as Longhorn cattle and oil rigs. Whether you’re Texan or not, a stop at one of the massive trucks stops as become a rite of passage on a long road trip.
As the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers have made their way back and forth in this American League Championship Series, many fans have made the drive up and down I-35 and the Buc-ees in Madisonville — a solid halfway point between the two metro areas — has seen plenty of business.
And it’s not just Astros and Rangers fans making the pit stop. Apparently, some players are making their way in.
Just as Astros first baseman José Abreu.
After the Astros beat the Rangers in Game 5 on Friday and headed back to Houston, apparently Abreu and his family stopped at a Buc-ees. But don’t take his word for it. An Astros fan recognized him and got a photo.

On Sunday, before Game 6, Abreu was asked for confirmation that, indeed, he and his family stopped at Buc-ees.
“I was expecting that when I was driving on my way back here, and I wanted my kid to see something different,” Abreu said. “The sandwiches there are really good.”
No one got to the bottom of whether Abreu took home any Beaver Nuggets. But he did tell reporters that was driving with a friend and that he wanted his son to experience the road trip.
“I didn't make the drive myself, I was driving with a friend,” Abreu said. “But I did it so my kid can experience what his dad is going through, just to see everything that I'm experiencing in a different way. So I did everything for my kid, so he can experience all that himself.”
Game 6 is Sunday in Houston.
