The Houston Astros are looking to become the first Major League Baseball team to repeat as World Series champions since the New York Yankees won three straight from 1998-2000.

It would also be the Astros’ third title since 2017 if they’re able to accomplish the feat.

Trying to repeat can be pressure-packed, but the Astros aren’t taking that approach.

“It’s honestly so cool to have the opportunity to do that,” franchise staple Alex Bregman told reporters. “Every person in that clubhouse is motivated by it. This team is built to win championships.”

The Astros have reached at least the American League Championship Series in six of Bregman's seven seasons with World Series titles in 2017 and ’22.

If the Astros can sign Bregman and Jose Altuve to longterm contract extensions beyond ‘24, they’ll be in the mix every season.

“Bregman’s a core piece. Altuve’s a core piece,” new general manager Dana Brown said. “I think we should lock ‘em up.”

Brown already locked up right-hander Cristian Javier to a reported $64 million deal through ’27.

“It’s so exciting for this fan base, for this city,” Bregman told reporters about Javier. “We got an incredible starting pitcher who is a leader on the mound. You want to play for an organization like the Astros who want to win year in and year out.”
