BREAKING: Kyle Wright to 60-day Injured List; will miss 2024 season

Shortly after announcing the postseason roster and surprising everyone with the exclusion of pitcher Kyle Wright, reports emerged that the Atlanta Braves are placing Wright on the 60-Day Injured List, officially ending his season.
The team has not yet confirmed the news, and it is not on the official MLB transactions page as of time of publication.
In nine appearances this season (seven starts), Wright was 1-3 with a 6.97 ERA.
Wright, who led all of Major League Baseball with 21 wins last season, has been chasing this shoulder issue for about a year now. He had lingering soreness after last year's postseason, which bothered him enough to get a cortisone injection in January. The necessary "quiet period" after the injection delayed the start of his spring training ramp-up, and he ended up opening the 2023 season on the injured list.
Finally being activated in early April, Wright made five starts for Atlanta before being placed directly on the 60-Day IL with "right shoulder inflammation". They weren't terribly effective starts, with a combined 5.79 ERA in the five outings, including only two innings in the last against the Marlins.
Wright returned to the active roster in September, four months after his IL placement, and promptly lost his first two starts (both against Philadelphia) before being moved to the bullpen. He was significantly better in the pen, pitching a combined 5.1 innings with two runs allowed on six hits, walking only one and striking out six.
The injury explains his being left off the roster - given the effectiveness of his two bullpen stints and his intrasquad outing this week, it was assumed he'd be on the postseason roster to work as a "piggyback" for either Bryce Elder or AJ Smith-Shawver in game three.
But after throwing in relief of Smith-Shawver this week during the team's intrasquad games in Truist Park, Wright reported soreness and the team's chosen to shut him down.
It's not known at this time if any sort of medical procedure will be needed.
UPDATE: Wright is having shoulder surgery and will miss the 2024 season.
Kyle Wright will need a surgical procedure of some kind on his shoulder and is expected to miss all of the 2024 season, #Braves manager Brian Snitker said. MRI Friday revealed damage.

Wright has three years of contractual control remaining after this season, with 2024 slated to be his first year of arbitration.
