A notable change or two: Travis d'Arnaud, as is customary, moves into a starting spot behind the dish for the day game following a night game. But he also started game one of the series, so he's started two of the three games in the series. Brian Snitker's usual pattern has been to start Sean Murphy for the first two games and Travis for the third - it's unknown whether this is an adjustment because Travis missed a "scheduled" start in the two game Boston series or if this was done to allow Sean Murphy a chance to rest his legs. Murphy, who started for the National League in the All-Star Game, is 4-41 since the exhibition with one extra-base hit and 13 strikeouts.
Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, August 2nd
Starting for Atlanta is Yonny Chirinos. The former Tampa Bay Ray, acquired off of waivers in July, is officially 4-4 on the season with a 4.34 ERA in 16 appearances (5 starts). He's started one game since being acquired by Atlanta, going 3.2 innings with six hits and four runs against Milwaukee in an eventual 10-7 Braves victory. Only three current Angels have faced him, with 3B Eduardo Escobar being 1-2 with a solo home run, OF Randal Grichuk being 2-8 with a home run and two RBIs, and utility man Andrew Velasquez 1-2.
Opposing Atlanta is new Angels pitcher Lucas Giolito. 6-7 with a 3.85 ERA on the season, this is his 2nd start since being acquired from the Chicago White Sox for two top ten prospects, C Edgar Quero and LHP Ky Bush. He took the loss in his only Angels start of the season, going 5.1 innings against Toronto with six hits and three runs. He only walked one and struck out five, but was done in by two Blue Jays home runs. Several Braves have faced him before, with Matt Olson (2-6, 2 HRs, 4 RBIs), Travis d'Arnaud (1-3, solo home run), and Eddie Rosario (.265 average in 34 at-bats, with two home runs and three RBIs) all having taken him deep.
