Braves Briefing: Atlanta continues to struggle at home

Here's a look around MLB from an Atlanta Braves perspective.

Braves Briefing: Atlanta continues to struggle at home

For whatever reason, this very talented Atlanta Braves lineup is not getting it done at home.

The Atlanta Braves were swept by the Houston Astros in a series that many decided was important entering the weekend.

Atlanta is struggling at home

Truist Park is home to one of the best atmospheres in baseball, but so far this season, the Atlanta Braves are on a 4-6 skid while playing there. Thanks to the 10-2 record on the road, the Braves are able to hold onto a half-game lead in the division.

Last season, Atlanta went 55-26 at home. In 2021, the Braves went 42-38. If Atlanta could get anywhere close to that with how they are playing on the road, this still could be a special season.

NL East Standings

Obviously, getting swept is not good for where you are in the standings. Atlanta now holds just a half-game lead over the New York Mets. Despite losing their last four games, the Braves are only one game worse than the Mets, Marlins, and Phillies over the last 10 games. The Braves are 6-4 over their last ten contests, trailing those other NL East teams' 7-3 mark. Washington is 3-7 in their last 10 games.

You can't cover this past series without discussing Atlanta's bullpen. Braves Today's Editor In Chief Lindsay Crosby covered the action yesterday. Here are his thoughts on the relievers that took over a Max Fried gem.

Today's victims were Nick Anderson and AJ Minter. Together they pitched two full innings with five hits, five runs, and two walks to five strikeouts, changing this game from a 2-0 Braves lead to a 5-2 Astros victory.
As we mentioned earlier, Houston's excelled in the late innings this series, scoring twelve runs combined in the last three innings of the three games, while Atlanta was held scoreless after the 7th in the series. This feels more like it's to Houston's credit offensively than an issue with Atlanta's bullpen, which has excelled early this season for the most part.

Check out all of the takeaways here.
