Braves in the Grapefruit League for 2020? Heck yeah!

There have been a lot of scenarios kicked out for what Major League Baseball could be considering on how to start the season.

The most popular, or for lack of a better term loudest option may be the bubble proposal, where all 30 teams would go to Arizona, stay in their same existing leagues and play a truncated season.

But one that was floated a few weeks ago include the teams from the Grapefruit League staying in Florida and playing all their games at the spring training facilities they play in during February and March, while the Arizona spring training teams would do the same thing out west.

If that happened, the Braves could be placed in a division with other teams that are closest to their spring training facility in North Port, Florida. That would include the Tampa Bay Rays, the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles.

Would that be different? Certainly. But this is going to be a different season no matter what.

The designated hitter would be used in all games, meaning we likely would never again see pitchers hit. There would be three divisions in each league, and the two champions of those leagues would meet in a neutral location for the World Series after the regular season.

Yes, let’s do it. There’s no reason for the teams to be anywhere but their own spring training facilities. The fans would not be in the stands, at least not at the start of the season. But it would at least be a way to get the season underway and not just have a gap in the record book.
