Touki Toussaint ready to try and make the roster

In spring training, Touki Toussaint looked like a different pitcher. No longer a kid who just had great stuff, Toussaint was showing he was more of a real pitcher. The Braves believed he was ready to contribute for the 2020 season.
And then, the season stopped. And when it came back, Toussaint had to stop, as he tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
To this day, Toussaint is still asymptomatic. Thankfully, he never had the issues his teammate Freddie Freeman had. It just took Toussaint time to get his two negative tests within a 24-hour period.
So now, Toussaint is ready to prove, in just a few short days, that he could be ready to help this Braves team even from day one.
With the Braves expected to use a piggyback approach, where starting pitchers are backed up by long relievers who could also start if needed, Toussaint could fit in perfectly with that role.
He was doing so well in spring training. In his three appearances, Toussaint allowed just two earned runs on two hits in 8.2 innings, with three walks and eight strikeouts.
It really looked like he had turned the corner and was going to be better than the pitcher who has had a 4.97 ERA in his 31 Major League games.
Toussaint pitched Saturday night in the scrimmage. He will likely have another chance or two this week to show if he can be ready to go when the season starts on Friday.
