In this story:

The Milwaukee Brewers are the first team in Major League Baseball to reach 80 wins on the season.

Milwaukee simply finds ways to win games, no matter what happens. The Brewers currently are missing Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester in the starting rotation right now. The expectation has been that neither would return in 2026, although things have shifted with Woodruff. Now, he at least has a chance to return this season if all goes well for him. Fortunately for the veteran hurler, he was able to avoid shoulder surgery.

Offensively, the Brewers have the fewest homers in baseball with 120 long balls. Still, it doesn't matter. Milwaukee wins baseball games. Right now, the Brewers have a two-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the Major League Baseball standings. The Tampa Bay Rays are 3 1/2 games back. The Atlanta Braves are five games back. All in all, the Brewers are in an excellent spot.

This is the time of year to watch the standings closely. Over the last few weeks, we have been watching the Brewers' magic number to clinch a playoff spot, the National League Central and the No. 1 spot in the National League in general closely. On Friday, the Brewers kicked off one of their most important series of the season with a three-game set against the Braves. Jacob Misiorowski took the hill against Braves star Chris Sale and won the matchup to deliver Milwaukee's 80th win of the season.

The Brewers Control Their Own Destiny

In the process, the Brewers' magic numbers to clinch dropped. Right now, the Brewers' magic number to clinch a playoff spot in general is 20. The club's magic number to clinch the NL Central title is 24 and Milwaukee's magic number to clinch the No. 1 seed is 31.

Milwaukee has taken care of business, to say the least. The American League has been significantly weaker than the National League this season. Despite this fact, the Brewers are tied with the Tampa Bay Rays, who are leading the American League with a 76-52 record, for the lowest magic number to clinch a playoff spot and the lowest magic number to clinch a No. 1 seed at 31.

Right now, the Brewers have the second-lowest magic number to clinch a division in the National League. The Dodgers' magic number to clinch the NL West is 24. The Braves' magic number to clinch the NL East is 28.

The Brewers are right where they need to be. They're ahead of everyone and control their own destiny.
