Red-Hot Cardinals Top Prospect Exploding In Triple-A; Could Call Up Finally Be Coming?

It may be time for the Cardinals to give their top prospect a chance

The St. Louis Cardinals have turned their focus to the 2024 campaign.

St. Louis entered the 2023 season as a contender to represent the National League in the World Series but things didn't pan out. The Cardinals struggled out the gate to open the season and never were able to truly get their footing.

The Cardinals were in unfamiliar territory ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and for the first time in recent memory were sellers. St. Louis offloaded hurlers Jordan Montgomery, Jack Flaherty, and Jordan Hicks along with shortstop Paul DeJong to name a few, and now will need to figure out the plan for the rest of the season. The Cardinals likely will give some young guys a chance at the big league level to see what they can do and one player who is making the case for himself right now is top prospect Masyn Winn.

Winn is just 21 years old and has shot up the Cardinals' farm system and has spent the 2023 season with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds. In 97 appearances so far this season, Winn has slashed .278/.351/.458 to go along with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs. While his overall numbers are impressive, his numbers specifically in July pop much more. Winn was red-hot throughout July and slashed .359/.427/.750 to go along with eight home runs, two triples, eight doubles, and 26 RBIs across 22 games played.

He is just 21 years old so it's not too surprising that he hasn't been called up to the big leagues yet, but he is doing everything he can at the minor league level to show that he is ready for a promotion. At this point in the season, as the Cardinals attempt to see what they have in some younger players, they should give Winn a chance to see what he can do at the big-league level.
