This week, the Chicago Cubs dropped slightly in Sports Illustrated's weekly MLB power rankings on Inside the Phillies.

For the first time all season, the Cubs placed in the top-10, in last week's power rankings. Despite posting a winning record over the past week, the Cubs fell out of the top-10 and dropped three spots this week. The Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox have all moved in front of the Cubs.

The Cubs entered last week with a very favorable schedule, playing host to the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox. The Cubs went 3-2 against a pair of abysmal teams, squandering a prime opportunity to gain ground on the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central race. The Brewers managed to go 3-3 over a tough road trip, having to travel to play the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers. The Cubs gained just a half-game on the Brew Crew over the past week.

David Ross' club was nearly swept by the White Sox, and came close to blowing a 4-1 9th inning lead over the Royals on Sunday. The Cubs nearly went 1-4 against inferior opponents, at home, prompting a drop in the power rankings, with three teams moving in front of them.

The Cubs will have a very light schedule over the next week, as they travel to Detroit and Pittsburgh to play seven games against the Tigers and Pirates. If the Cubs are able to clean up on their favorable schedule, they can narrow the three-game gap between them and the Brewers, in advance of the three-game series between the two NL Central rivals, beginning next Monday, in Chicago.

Here's a look at where the Cubs stand in the power rankings, as well as the 12 teams in front of the Cubs:
