It feels like a reunion between the Chicago Cubs and Cody Bellinger is imminent but it still hasn't happened yet.

In this story:

The remake of the movie Groundhog Day won't be starring Bill Murray, but instead will feature the Chicago Cubs and Cody Bellinger.

That's because throughout the entire offseason, the two parties have been linked by insiders over and over again.

Nothing has materialized out of it, as reports indicate the price tag Bellinger is looking for is not something the Cubs' front office is willing to meet.

It's a standoff.

But that does not stop the insiders from continually saying a reunion is seemingly imminent.

Once again, Jon Morosi stated that Chicago is the most likely landing spot for Bellinger according to what he's hearing.

This came on the heels of the Toronto Blue Jays, who were viewed as a potential suitor for the slugger, agreeing to a deal with Justin Turner.

Morosi also mentioned there's no indication that Bellinger is close to deciding who his next team will be, as it's likely his agent, Scott Boras, will continue to hold out until his client receives something close to the payday they were looking for at the beginning of his free agency.

At some point, both Bellinger and the Cubs will have to make a decision.

Entering February, pitchers and catchers are close to reporting with Spring Training right around the corner.

Chicago continues to look for stars on the open market and would like to keep the power bat of their former slugger in the lineup, but as all things do, it comes down to finances.

It makes sense to reunite with the Cubs for Bellinger.

He had a resurgent year after two brutal seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers that caused his change of scenery.

Still, there are questions if the 2019 National League MVP can continue that form moving forward.

So, expect the Chicago and Bellinger connections to run rampant throughout the next few weeks, unless he decides where he's going to play baseball for this upcoming season.
