Chicago Cubs Relationship With Agent Could Be Slowing Down Bellinger Talks

The lack of deals between the Chicago Cubs and Cody Bellinger's agent, Scott Boras, could be what is holding up a reunion.

The constant chatter about a reunion between the Chicago Cubs and Cody Bellinger continues with him still a free agent as pitchers and catchers report in a week.

Things haven't quite gone as the slugger and his agent, Scott Boras, expected when the former MVP put together a great comeback season under his "prove it" deal he signed.

Boras was likely expecting teams to lineup and get into a bidding war over one of the best hitters on the market, but that has not happened and he still is waiting for his new team.

Or a reunion with his past team.

The Cubs would love to have him back. They just don't want to pay the amount of money that Bellinger and Boras are looking for.

This is one of the reasons why Chicago normally doesn't find themselves dealing with Boras clients. In fact, they've never signed a player represented by the super agent to a long-term, lucrative contract.

Bellinger would be the first.

That's why Jesse Rogers of ESPN isn't so sure that there will be a reunion between the two parties like everyone is expecting.

"If you ask me today, I think its 51/49 he does not come back. He does not come back," he said on Waddle and Silvy.

This shocked the hosts, but Rogers continued to point out the lack of relationship between the organization and who is representing Bellinger to find his next deal.

"I go off of history. They have not signed a Boras client," he emphatically stated.

This is certainly different from what just about every member of the media thinks.

They believe it's a given that Bellinger is with the Cubs when the season starts.

And maybe he will be.

Boras and the front office were able to work together last offseason, but history has shown the Cubs aren't looking to hand out lucrative deals to his clients.

Just another wrinkle in the Bellinger saga.
