Fulmer in Contention for Chicago Cubs Closer Job

Chicago Cubs General Manager Carter Hawkins spoke about the possibility of pitcher Michael Fulmer landing the closer job for the club.

The Chicago Cubs signed relief pitcher Michael Fulmer with one goal in mind: to bolster the bullpen. Fulmer became a full time reliever after undergoing Tommy John surgery and has seemed to have found his stride in the role.

So much in fact that Cubs General Manager Carter Hawkins has big plans in store for Fulmer.

Speaking with 670 The Score, Hawkins mentioned that Fulmer will be put into games for meaningful outs. The idea of naming him "closer" has crossed the minds of the front office and managerial staff but no decision thus far.

One thing Hawkins does know is that Fulmer will be used heavily in late innings situations when the game is on the line.

If Fulmer's spring is any indication of his performance for the upcoming season, then he very well may be the frontrunner for the closer's role.
