Chicago Cubs Drop Series to Brewers As Taillon Falters

In this story:
Sunday did not go as the Chicago Cubs (1-2) had planned it. Entering the afternoon the Cubs were hoping to win the rubber match against the Milwaukee Brewers (2-1) and secure their first series win of the 2023 MLB season.
Instead, they dropped Sunday's contest 9-5.
Starter Jameson Taillon was charged with the loss after pitching 4.0 innings while allowing three earned runs on seven hits. He struck out just two.
Eric Lauer was credited with the win for the Brewers after going 5.1 innings pitched and allowing just two earned runs.
It wasn't all bad from Chicago who plated a run before an out was even recorded in the bottom of the first. Nico Hoerner and Dansby Swanson teamed up for the first score.
Additionally, Patrick Wisdom got the start in right field and hit two home runs, both of the solo variety in the second and seventh innings.
However, it was the sixth inning that did the Cubs in as Milwaukee scored five runs off of Julian Merryweather, extending their lead to 8-2. A hole that proved too much for Chicago to climb out of.
The Cubs will try again and look to get back on track Monday as they visit the Cincinnati Reds.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. CT on Monday.
