Cubs Get Boost With Five Players in Top 100 Prospect Rankings

In this story:
The Chicago Cubs have five Top 100 prospects per MLB.com, as the site re-ranked its Top 100 prospects after the first four months of the season and the 2023 MLB Draft.
Of the five prospects, four of them could be in position to help the Cubs by the end of next season. Two are a Triple-A Iowa and two of them are at Double-A Tennessee.
The Cubs’ top prospect remained outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, who was recently called up to Iowa and is considered one of the best fielding prospects in all of baseball. With his promotion, the 21-year-old is the No. 11 overall prospect and is considered a 2024 call-up for the Cubs.
Crow-Armstrong recently hit a booming home run for the Iowa Cubs.
Next is pitcher Cade Horton, who is No. 30 overall. The 2022 first-round pick recently joined Double-A Tennessee and he’s seen as a potential 2025 call-up for the Cubs. His first start with Tennessee was one of his sharpest of the season.
Outfielder Owen Caissie was ranked No. 69 in the Top 100 and is also at Double-A Tennessee. He was picked in the second round in 2020 by the San Diego Padres and he was the highest-drafted Canadian outfielder ever. His development has accelerated to the point that he’s considered a potential call-up next season.
Outfielder Kevin Alcántara was the only Cubs prospect in the Top 100 not at Double-A or Triple-A. He’s at High Class-A South Bend, but his skill set is so well regarded that he’s projected as a potential call-up next season. He was No. 77 in the Top 100.
The last Cub in the Top 100 was pitcher Ben Brown, who is at Triple-A Iowa and was ranked No. 92. He’s been one of the more consistent arms in the Cubs organization this season and he’s projected as a 2024 call-up.
