The Chicago Cubs are scrambling to find another starting pitcher after Jameson Taillon will reportedly miss his next start on Thursday.

The Chicago Cubs will be without Jameson Taillon for another start as he is due to miss his Thursday turn through the rotation according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Taillon is supposed to throw a bullpen on Tuesday, but even if successful he will not be available according to the report.

Manager David Ross said even if all goes well in Jameson Taillon’s high-intensity bullpen session Tuesday, he will not be in the mix to start Thursday. Recovering from a strained left groin, Taillon is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. But it doesn’t appear to be a minimum stint.
Taillon first threw off a mound again Saturday. The feedback from that 25-pitch bullpen session was “really good,” pitching coach Tommy Hottovy said.
With Taillon out of the picture for Thursday, the Cubs’ starting options are limited.
“I don’t even know who it is,” Ross said.

All of the usual suspects to take Taillon's spot are unavailable. Caleb Kilian will not get a second shot. Adrian Sampson is on the Triple-A injured list. Javier Assad could potentially get the call, but it would be on a shortened rest, so probably not an option.

Therefore, a bullpen day probably is in the near future. It happens occasionally throughout the season and would be the easiest option in terms of maintain roster construction.

Either way, Chicago is waiting with bated breath for the return of Taillon and starter Kyle Hendricks. Both of whom are not far off from being added back to the active roster.
