This offseason, Chicago Cubs' president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer has not been shy in shaking things up within the organization. He turned heads with his aggressive hiring of Craig Counsell to be their next manager, which has resulted in overall staff turnover.

As Counsell begins his journey to piece together his coaching staff for the upcoming season, Hoyer has made a promotion within his front office.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Cubs have promoted Jared Banner to assistant general manager from his role as vice president of player development.

Banner will still oversee the player development aspect of Chicago but will now hold the coveted title of assistant GM for the upcoming season.

He originally joined the Cubs in 2021 as the vice president of special projects after serving as the executive director of player development with the New York Mets for two seasons.

Prior to that, Banner spent 11 years with the Boston Red Sox, working his way up the ladder within their front office. He received three World Series rings with the Red Sox after they won in 2007, '13 and '18.

Since joining Chicago in 2021, the rising executive has overseen the Cubs turning their pipeline into one of the best in baseball. That's been important to the success of this franchise in the past and they have put emphasis on building that aspect of their organization to be strong once again.

"We have a large group at the upper levels that are ready to contribute ... In due time, we don’t want to rush anything, but when those opportunities come, the key is for us to make sure they are ready for them. That’s our sole focus," Banner said prior to the 2023 season when talking about their top prospects.

Now, it seems like those players are ready to become impact players for Chicago in the near future, something he had a hand in making happen.
