Chicago Cubs Saturday Notes: Mervis, Kilian, and Steele

In this story:
It is always fun when a top prospect gets called up to the Major Leagues for their debut. It gives the fans someone and something to root for.
That was the case on Friday when the Chicago Cubs called up Matt Mervis for his long-awaited debut. He didn't disappoint as he notched an RBI-single to put the game out of reach 4-1 against the Miami Marlins.
President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer did say that the decision to call him up was based on his potential ability to help kickstart a floundering offense according to the Chicago Tribune. But he also noted they don't plan on him to carry the offense nor want to put that pressure on him.
On the pitching side of the house, Justin Steele has been incredible to start the season. He has 1.45 ERA after a 7.0 innings pitched, one run performance on Friday against Miami. He currently holds the best ERA in the National League.
It's an encouraging sign for the Cubs who are enjoying a pretty solid rotation this season. That is perhaps the biggest question mark for any team wanting to contend.
Speaking of pitching, Caleb Kilian, who got blown up last week in his first MLB start of the season rebounded nicely in Triple-A Iowa on Friday evening. He threw 5.0 innings of scoreless baseball and struck out five.
